With profound sadness, family, friends, and members of the Nashua, New Hampshire, community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Erick H. Machado, 31, a devoted father of two whose life was tragically cut short following a boating accident on the Merrimack River.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, the fatal incident occurred at approximately 5:16 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2026, on the Merrimack River in Hudson, New Hampshire. Marine Patrol officers and State Troopers assigned to Troop B responded to reports of a serious boat crash involving severe injuries.
A preliminary investigation determined that Machado was operating a personal watercraft when it collided with the rear of a pontoon boat. The impact threw him into the water, where he was struck by the pontoon boat’s propeller, causing catastrophic injuries to his legs.
The occupants of the pontoon boat immediately called 911, while bystanders riding another personal watercraft rushed to assist. They helped bring Machado aboard another vessel before transporting him to shore, where first responders from the Hudson Police and Fire Departments began emergency lifesaving measures.
Despite the tireless efforts of emergency personnel, Erick Machado succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have stated that the death is not believed to be suspicious, and the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation. Marine Patrol officers were assisted by members of the Hudson Police Department, Hudson Fire Department, and the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
